Office Plant of the Year 2010 Announced
August 10th 2010
If you’re looking for an interesting plant that works to keep you healthier then look no further than the Beaucarnea recurvata bonsai (Ponytail Palm) voted eFIG’s Office Plant of the Year earlier this week.
“It’s one our favourite plants for desks or file tops,” claims Thomas Palfreyman, the current eFIG Chairman and Managing Director of Urban Planters. Tom also states “That it likes to be warm and light and is perfect for small spaces as a ‘stand alone’ plant so that its signature swollen trunk can be shown off.”
From a design perspective, this plant fulfils several criteria:
- Interesting to look at
- Available in a range of sizes from 8” tall – 8’
- Looks good as a small plant
- But equally it is striking in a large container for impact
Ease of care:
- Tolerant of dry atmospheres
- Stores water
- Easy to maintain
Runner up and third place in the Office Plant of the Year Awards were Ficus Bonsai and Chlorophytum respectively.
Over the years, scientific and academic research has shown that plants are good for us; that they clean and refresh the air and reduce absenteeism. For more information please see our research section of the website.
So as well as looking good in an office Beaucarnea like all plants will absorb toxins and refresh the air with oxygen and ‘hot of the press’ research from Australia confirms that just one plant can improve your mood. The better we feel, the better we perform so a Beaucarnea on your desk would be perfect.
If every office worker had just one plant on or by their desk, businesses would not only have a healthier workforce but their bottom line could be positively affected. In terms of achieving a more productive staff, this must be one of the cheapest options!
