Prescott slammed for spending money on plants
October 11th 2010
John Prescott was not best known for his calm disposition but he did get at least one thing right – his love of plants.
Earlier this month, Tory ministers decided his love of plants cost just too much and the maintenance contract will be brought to an end.
Although terminating the maintenance contract can save on those budgeted costs, such a cost cutting exercise could end up being a false economy in the long term.
To achieve the maximum level of benefits that plants offer, plants need to be in tip-top condition and if they are not, they will not ‘scrub the air’ as effectively as they could; therefore becoming less effective at saving businesses money from reduced absenteeism and less productive, unhealthy staff.
To ensure against this, the UK Green Building Council would recommend that you not only have plants, you also get a professional interior landscaper to maintain your plants.
Although at a cost, the staff at the Department of Communities and Local Government Eland House HQ could continue to reduce their absenteeism by up to 40% if they were allowed to have their plants professionally maintained.
No wonder John Prescott looks so angry – they’ve got it wrong again and obviously do not listen to Chris Evans. Who allowed the benefits of plants to make a second appearance on the nation’s favourite breakfast radio DJ’s show.
Chris Evans first highlighted the benefits of plants on his drive time show back in May 2009, but took the opportunity again to highlight how indoor green plants can combat against stress on his breakfast show on the 22nd September.
