Guest blog: Challenging the Norm – A Sales Conference with a difference

23 October 2018

Last week, Momentum South West Founder and Director, Rachael Howourth, partnered up with a client of theirs, Georgie Mann, Director of Green Hat People, to deliver a high impact sales conference at our annual conference, held this year at The Quay Hotel in Conwy, North Wales.

Here, Rachael reflects on the day:

Green Hat People are an innovative gamification company who use digital technology to design meetings, workshops and business games to enable employees to develop and have fun through active learning. Generating enthusiastic discussions, their technology platform helps businesses to convey messages in the most effective way possible, whilst embedding business objectives into a variety of fun and unique games.

The sales conference was held for the unique Urban Planters, a company who supply stunning plant displays which transform and improve workplaces and homes into healthy and beautiful environments. Passionate about delivering a premium service, Urban Planters have been delivering real benefits through office and house plants for the last 50 years by creating imaginative landscapes which improve air quality, reduce stress, improve mental well-being and deliver a happy working environment.

A glimpse of our day…

Using tablets to support learning and collaboration during the day, a diverse mix of management, sales teams and franchisees were sat in teams of 6 and facilitated through challenges involving sales-related content, as well as puzzles, breakout challenges, photo challenges and the sharing of best practice. It was lots of fun as well as providing a mix of learning, best practice sharing and thoughtful reflection.

The content I delivered focused on a consultative sales approach, highlighting the importance of creating honest, transparent relationships with customers, whilst reinforcing that the customer experience should continue to be at the heart of everything that the team at Urban Planters do.

The Managing Directors of Urban Planters gave some fantastic feedback:

“Thank you for such an engaging day, the team have thoroughly enjoyed it” – Rory Waterer

“It was an enlightening day with lots of takeaways for us to digest.” Thomas Palfreyman

Carole Milligan, Sales Manager North West also said, “We loved how Rachael Howourth just gets it. A superb, motivational day.”

The day after the conference, the Urban Planters team climbed Mount Snowdon to raise money for the Anthony Nolan Charity and Sheffield Hospital for one of the Urban Planters team who is currently undergoing a stem cell transplant to beat Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. They’ve raised over an incredible £11,500 so far.

My team at Momentum South West and I are really proud to have been involved in such an inspiring day, uniting with local businesses to deliver a highly effective and highly active conference

We were also able to collaborate with one of our fantastic clients, Green Hat People, to deliver a technology-focused event, which supported learning and helped to motivate the inspiring team at Urban Planters to climb a mountain!

Huge congratulations on your success so far, Urban Planters.

What’s Next?

We are now collaborating with Green Hat People on another exciting new project delivering customisable ‘Sales Kick-Off Meetings’ to support corporate businesses when rolling out new sales campaigns. Together, Georgie and I have recognised that outdated and old-fashioned PowerPoint slides do not reach the levels of engagement needed to drive motivation and success, so we want to push boundaries and innovative the way that businesses learn by employing exciting new tools and ideas…
