As the nights draw in, you may just be starting to think about Christmas, but in the interior landscaping world, we need to get started early when planning festive decorations: many of our clients are already starting to approach us to plan what their decorating theme will be this year.
In fact, we start going to Christmas fairs start as early as January to see what looks will be hot (or should we say cool?) this year. These days there are so many different takes on the Christmas decoration, but even unusual colours and materials can still, when used with thought, create a festive feel.
Capital One is a long-standing client of Urban Planters Derbyshire and last year they wanted something completely different for Christmas at their European Headquarters. So, they decided on a theme of “Masquerade” in the unusual colours of blue, yellow, pink and purple.
As well as sourcing decorations in these colours to adorn the 23 flocked and natural trees, we also used matching masquerade masks to complete the look.
We also even took the unusual look a step further and selected toy monkeys to decorate a four-and-a-half-metre tree, which were then donated to local children’s charities after the festive season.
But although we see many fresh takes on Christmas each year, there are also a large number of people for whom Christmas will always mean a traditional look.
Last year, Hinckley Island Hotel in Leicestershire wanted high quality, traditional decorations throughout its public areas. All the decorations used were made especially for the client to ensure high quality levels and exactly the right look for the hotel’s decor.
In a central area called the Rotunda, an impressive open area which stretches up through its three floors, two 12ft replica English pine Christmas trees for hire with traditional red and gold decorations were used to great effect.
Another take on the traditional feel was used at Jurys Inn in Exeter. The look required here was a traditional ‘Winter Wonderland’, so trees heavily flocked with snow were selected, along with the classic lights and baubles.
To introduce something a bit different to decoration service, however, mauves, pinks and silvers were selected for the colour scheme, to pick out the hotel’s corporate colours.
The hotel was so impressed with Urban Planters South West’s work that their Plymouth hotel also wanted us to do their decorations. This time, we had to move away from the traditional and stretch our creative flair to come up with a ‘James Bond’ Christmas theme!
So, be it traditional winter wonderlands or an unusual theme with a modern flavour, there are many ways to bring Christmas to the workplace. Our one piece of advice: get in the professionals and book us early. We’re already unravelling the fairy lights!
