Fresh air has just got smarter

June 19, 2019

The 20th June marks Clean Air Day in the UK, a day dedicated to raising awareness of the extent and effects of air pollution in our outdoor and indoor air.

Air pollutants come in many forms, and its not just on busy city streets where we are breathing in potentially harmful substances. It is reported that our indoor air quality is getting worse and in some cases can be more toxic than outdoors.

How bad is the indoor air we breathe?

These days, most of us spend up to 90% of our day indoors, be it in our homes, our workspaces, our cars or when we are elsewhere enjoying ourselves. Coupled with the fact that the air inside modern buildings can be five times more toxic than outside air because modern buildings and structures are more airtight and filled with pollutant-emitting products, it’s high time we found ways to breathe better indoors.

Toxins and pollutants from technology, furnishings, cleaning products and paint cause allergies such as asthma, but there are also very thin pollutants in our indoor air which are so small they can enter your blood stream and are therefore free to penetrate to a cellular level. It is now thought that air pollution may be one of the main factors of other ailments within the body. In fact, the World Health Organisation has now listed air pollution as one of the most dangerous threats to human health.

Tech to the rescue

Thankfully, technology has come to our aid in the shape of new active air products which can supercharge the rate at which plants can clean our indoor air.

Even on their own plants have significant air cleaning properties removing, for instance a number of harmful toxins (VOCs) from the air by way of phytoremediation. This is a passive process, whereby air is absorbed by the plant’s leaves and at the plant’s transpiration rate, transporting these absorbed pollutants by convection current to the plant’s root zone.

These new active air products are able to supercharge the process, making the natural process more efficient to create cleaner and healthier indoor air.

Introducing our new active air products

We are very pleased to announce that we are now supplying two innovative active air products to our clients: Vitesy, a range of plant pots, and Naava, a range of green wall units.

How do active air plant displays supercharge this process?

Both products draw indoor air directly into the root-zone of the plants using a fan, so that the micro-organisms that live on and around the plants roots and which have a symbiotic relationship with the plants can get straight to work. The harmful chemicals (VOCs) within your indoor air are absorbed by these micro-organisms and then biodegraded down into structures that can be used as food by both the micro-organisms and the plants. The cleaned air is then pushed back into the indoor space, giving you better air to breathe.

What’s more, Vitesy comes with a nifty app for your smartphone which provides real time analysis of the pollutants in the room, as well as temperature and humidity levels.

How effective are active air plant displays?

It depends on the size of the display and how many you have, but we know that a single Vitesy plant display can purify 36m3 of indoor air in less than 24 hours and that a Naava One can purify 60m3 of indoor air in an hour.

So, you simply need to establish how much indoor space you have in each room and select the appropriate type and quantity of active air displays to start improving your indoor air.

We have the solution

Research has proven that the supercharged power of plants can remove 93% of these pollutants from your indoor air. So please get in touch and start improving the indoor air you breathe.
