Thinking of getting a palm? Well here is one of our favourites.
Chamaedorea seifritzii, commonly know as the Bamboo palm originates from Mexico and is a firm favourite of ours. It is also a long-standing favourite in homes and the workplace as it is generally easy to look after, more resistant to insect infestations and has great health benefits. It produces clusters of small, slender canes from underground rhizomes, which then produce graceful rich green leaves. As with all in this genus, male and female flowers are on separate plants. The fruits are small, round, and black when ripe. As one of our large indoor plants, it can reach heights of 1.8m and add a peaceful, tropical feeling wherever they are placed.
Health Fact: The bamboo palm has an excellent overall rating and one of the highest transpiration ratings. It pumps much needed moisture into the indoor atmosphere as is great at removing toxins.
Environment: Bamboo palm thrives best in semi-sun/medium light. Leaves will become scorched if positioned in a stronger light and will also encourage red-spider mite infestation.
Care: Provide plenty of water during periods of active growth. and in winter just enough to keep compost moist. Do not pinch out or cut the tip of the stalks as this will eliminate new growth.
