Creating a planting scheme for Beacon Centre for the Blind required some special considerations for Urban Planters West Midlands’ Francis Hunt. As well as ensuring the displays posed no obstacle in main walkways, other factors to consider included avoiding glossy containers which could confuse the partially-sighted and any planters with sharp corners which could cause injury. There was also an emphasis on textured containers to create tactile points of interest.
The resulting scheme uses a range of large, strongly shaped plants in simple, curved containers, arranged in pairs and rows of three which create a sleek look while also softening corridors and complimenting the décor without being a hindrance to the centre’s visitors.
