Urban Planters Manchester recently came to the rescue of some struggling olive trees in the Hilton’s hotel reception area, using an innovative idea which had instant dramatic results.
We had been successfully maintaining the hotel’s external olive trees for some time, and had noticed that the interior trees that were looked after by another company were failing due to various conditions including low light levels.
The trunks were a lovely shape, and foliage at the bottom was still sprouting, but the leaves at the top of the trees were visibly dying off. So, I came up with the idea of drilling holes into the trunk and replacing the dying branches with replica ones.
We use replica plants all the time with great results, but we had never tried it with a live tree trunk before. The results are stunning: the trees are transformed and even against the real leaves at the bottom of the trees, it’s very hard to tell that the new branches aren’t real!
