Plants have been proven to increase concentration and improve learning, so where better to have them than a school?
Winifred Holtby School in Kingston-upon-Hull was keen to have tall trees in its new orangery and approached Urban Planters York to create a scheme to do justice to the vast, light space.
Two types of Ficus trees were chosen: Ficus binnendijkii ‘Alii’and Ficus microcarpa ‘Nitida’, all 3m high and planted in bespoke timber planters to compliment the wooden flooring.
The result is a striking, uniform boulevard of trees which not only look great, but will also reduce the levels of carbon dioxide in the room, making pupils more alert and ready to learn.
